Fun Run - Press Release
A wonderful sunny day on Sunday 4th October
2009 brought record numbers of runners to Manuden for the 7th
annual fun run. 326 runners took part in the 10k and 5k runs,
and an amazing 126 people took part in the 1k run. Final profit
figures are not yet available, but the fun run committee hope
to be able to send in excess of £3,000 to this year’s charity, ‘Beating
Bowel Cancer’. None of this would have been possible without
the donation of £1,000 from an anonymous sponsor’.
Pauline Burnard, the chair of the organising
committee said ‘It was great to see whole families arriving
from near and far to enjoy the fun run. The weather was perfect
for running – lovely sunshine, but not too hot – a real bonus
after last year, when it poured with rain. We were delighted
that many runners expressed their enjoyment of the event and
promised to come again next year on Sunday 3rd October 2010.
The fun run really brings the village together with many villagers
acting as marshals along the route, others handing out water
and medals; the guides hand out T-shirts at the end. Refreshments
were provided by the Parent & Friend Association from the school,
and it was wonderful to see families sitting in the sunshine
enjoying sausage and bacon rolls, or a cake and a cup of teaWinner
of the 10k run was Lee Reynolds in 35 minutes and 38 seconds,
with Steve Mardell coming first in the 5k run in 20 minutes
and 40 seconds. Taylor Alexander was the first back in the
1k run in just 3 minutes and 58 seconds. A full list of results
and pictures can be found on the Manuden village website: www.manuden.org.uk.
The committee would like to thank everyone
who made the day such a success. The date for next year’s run
will be Sunday 3rd October 2010.
